Quenching Julau’s thirst — From cans to treatment plants

JULAU: Longhouse chief Bundon Betih,56, was all smiles when she went on stage to collect four jerry cans from Julau member of parliament Datuk Joseph Salang at the community hall here on Saturday.
She was among 39 other longhouse chiefs and 46 household heads receiving the bright yellow ‘LIFESAVER’ jerry cans, courtesy of 1Malaysia Development Board (1MDB) through its coordinator Ihsan Perdana Sdn Bhd.
“The cans are imported from England and cost RM2,000 each, they use a highly advanced ultra filtration system originally developed for industrial applications.
“They can filter up to 18 litres of rain or river water at any one time without chemicals. The filter cartridge has a 20,000 litre lifespan.
“It is simple to operate, can remove chemical residues, waterborne bacteria and virus, parasites and fungi and the end result has been certified fit for drinking by our Health Ministry,” said Ihsan Perdana, Head of PR
